Abbie is a small xolo who spent the beginning of her life as an outside dog with very little human contact. . When she came into our care she was un-socialized, fearful, and untrusting. She ran and hid from her foster family for her first 2 weeks with them. She has since grown by leaps and 'dog'-bounds thanks to the foster family's patience and care with her. She is now crate trained, and doggy door trained. The doggy door also gives her excellent freedom to patrol her yard, and keep her home safe from birds, squirrels, cats (if they'll run) and other little critters, or children under 10 years old. She is so very skittish, that, if startled, and unable to run away xxx; she may feel the need to nip from fear. She has a very strong prey drive, and thrills in the chase. When the resident Parrot sees or even hears Abbie coming near xxx; he starts screaming at the top of his lungs xxx;oh, oh!! Oh, oh! oh, OH!!!xxx;. She's a little xxx;tooxxx; interested in birds. Socks and shoes are considered prey xxx; and Abbie sees to it that they are chewed up good. Other favorite treats are Kong toys, raw veggies, and cracking and eating pecans that she steals from the squirrels. She now will accept treats offered to her xxx; but she'd rather just help herself from the garden. Abbie's foster mom allows her one full-out fence line run with the neighbor's dogs so she can enjoy the exhilaration of 'all-out running and barking at the top of her lungs'. Just makes her as pleased as punch! When she's finished working for the day xxx; (hunting and harvesting the garden, etc.), she is a quiet xolo who enjoys hoarding special toys in her crate. Although she is now used to the vet and other family friends, she will need a quiet household to feel safe. A busy home with kids and people flying about, coming and going would be too much for her nervous little self to handle. Abbie will need experienced dog people with a lot of patience for her to learn to trust them. She will also need people willing and able, to continue teaching her how to be a good little pet. Are you up to giving this girl the good life and love she deserves?
